New York is still represented in two sections of the NCAA Division III men’s basketball tournament this weekend, with a pair of teams two wins away from the Final Four.
SUNY Oswego puts its 27-2 record on the line in tonight’s round of 16 game at 27-2 Marietta (Ohio). Tip-off is at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to Saturday night’s national quarterfinal.

The Lakers are on a seven-game win streak, including a SUNYAC tournament championship and NCAA-opening wins over Hood College and Keene State. Marietta, meanwhile, is on a 25-game win streak, with its last loss coming to Randolph-Macon (Va.) in late November.
Rensselaer Polytechnic (23-5), meanwhile, faces Worcester Polytechnic (26-2) at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Ashland, Va., with the winner playing in the Elite Eight on Saturday night. RPI rebounded from a Liberty League tournament semifinal loss to Skidmore with NCAA tournament wins over Nichols and Wesleyan to reach the Sweet 16.

RPI is in its first Sweet 16 since the 1995-96 season, and the Engineers have the top scoring defense in Division III at 57.5 points per game. WPI – also the Engineers – won the NEWMAC conference tournament before dispatching of Vassar and Penn State-Harrisburg in the NCAA tournament.
The D-III Final Four will be held next weekend in Fort Wayne, Ind.
