Darn Good Yarn is considered one of the fastest growing companies in the region. The owner, Nicole Snow, started running the business out of her home 10 years ago. Now she’s settling into a 12,000 square foot facility in Clifton Park. The move comes at a pivotal moment for the company.

“I never thought this business would grow the way it has,” said Snow.

Revenue is expected to jump from $5.3 million in 2017 to $8.5 million this year. To keep up with demand, founder and CEO Nicole Snow relocated the business from Schenectady to a much larger facility in Clifton Park.

Darn Good Yarn sells yarn, skirts, accessories, and more made from reclaimed materials and produced by people in India and Nepal.

“A lot of the women who manufacture these skirts for us don’t have sustainable sources of employment. They are basically working part time where they can find work and when we sell these skirts and they make them for us, we’re able to give those women sustainable  employment all year round actually,” said Chris Boughtwood, a Darn Good Yarn employee.

The company employs 10 people locally. Nicole, a veteran and mother, has hired 3 people in the last two weeks and plans to add more.

About ⅓ of the company’s revenue comes from its yarn of the month subscription service. They’re also launching a consulting business to help other small business. Darn Good Yarn casts a wide net when it comes to revenue streams, but their mission remains simple.

“We are here to create sustainable, safe employment for individuals and that is, I think, really how we have grown and thrived,” said Snow.
