An after-school program in Latham is rapidly rising in popularity. Since 2013, scores of students have come to School of Rock Albany to learn how to express themselves through music.

“It is all happiness for me when I’m here,” said Jayden Wojcik, a student.

Owner and music director Dave Bodie says the after-school program promotes empowerment through music.

“I think it does seep into the child that it is OK to be you, and it is OK to express you in a way that you feel that you need to express yourself,” said Bodie.

“My confidence has just soared up so much. It has been awesome. I love it so much,” said student Abbey Howe.

The business is one of about 200 worldwide but this is the only one in the Capital Region. Nearly 90 students come for lessons. Forty of the budding musicians routinely play at local music venues as part of the performance program.
