NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- The Niagara Falls Water Board has reported more discharge into the Niagara River from the Niagara Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The board says 1.1 million gallons were estimated to have discharged between 7 and 10 p.m. Tuesday due to severe weather.

A spokesperson says the discharge was promptly reported.

Last week, heavy rainfall also caused a volume overflow situation.

The board says in these instances the Niagara Falls treatment plant is permitted to overflow, passing through a monitoring station.

In late July, leaked sewage due to human error caused the water to smell and turn an inky dark color. The board says that discharge is a different type of incident than the two weather-related leaks.
