BUFFALO, N.Y. — After a two year hiatus, the Buffalo St. Patrick’s Day parade is scheduled to march down Delaware Avenue this weekend.
The United Irish-American Association says Buffalo's popular parade will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 20 and will travel along Delaware Avenue as usual.
Thousands will be in downtown Buffalo for the festivities.
Officials are ready to turn the page on what has been a tough two years and a return to some sense of normalcy. And they hope the parade can do just that.
"Due to an abundance of caution, we were forced to cancel those parades that year and the following year,” Common Council member Chris Scanlon said. “So it makes it that much more exciting to come together this year with our friends and family our neighbors and get together and celebrate the rich history of Ireland."
Patrick D. McGuinness of Lockport will serve as grand marshal of the 2022 parade. He is currently a trustee of the South Lockport Fire Department and a blood donation recruiter. Organizers say McGuinness is a living example of this year's theme, which is focused on honoring front-line workers and supporting our troops.
Be sure to watch for the Spectrum News 1 team, who will be marching in Sunday’s parade.
