BUFFALO, N.Y. — Imagine drinking beer for a good cause. Thanks to a local group, you can do just that.

Habitat for Humanity Buffalo is hosting a weekly virtual taste-testing called Hammer and Ales.

Every Thursday night, people can taste beverages from the comfort of their home while a local brewery or distillery walks them through how the drinks were made.

A ticket costs $35 and gets you an assortment of beverages, tasting glasses, and a one-hour Zoom meeting. Habitat is putting that money toward building a home for a family in need.

Proceeds are also benefiting breweries and distilleries that have been suffering during the pandemic.

"There's not much to do in a Buffalo winter during COVID times. And there are a lot of people who are still nervous to leave their houses. So this is a great way to buy beer from a local brewery and support Habitat. You're getting an experience you probably wouldn't get otherwise. You get to hear from the owners or the brewers," said Stephanie Lawson, development and communications director at Habitat for Humanity Buffalo.
