A high tech mirror ready to hit the market can actually help you see whether or not all that hard work at the gym is paying off. Time Warner Cable News' Adam Balkin filed the following report.
A simple, full length mirror can help you judge whether all that dieting and exercise is working. This, though, is not simply a full length mirror, and what is not simple about it is what it can show you and track for you how much all that diet and exercise is working. It’s called the “Naked” mirror.
“Naked’s a full length mirror embedded with sensors that capture a 3D body model of you, and that body model is used to essentially extract over 500 measurements from your body: get your body dimensions, volumetric body fat percentage, and your weight, and track them all over time," explains Farhad Farahbakhshian of Naked Labs.
As soon as you stand on the platform, the mirror knows you’re there and begins to spin you in order to capture you. And yes, just as the name implies, the fewer articles of clothing you have on, the better.
And while the 3D image may look cool developers insist it is also extremely helpful, much more helpful than a simple scale when it comes to figuring out how fit you’re getting.
“Weight without context is meaningless and actually BMI is an outdated metric that doesn’t take into consideration any muscle mass you have in your body. Over time we can actually give you what we call a progress map of your body which tells you where you’re gaining muscle and where you’re losing fat. So if I’m benching every week and I’m beating my own records on a regular basis we can actually say ‘Hey, you’re actually growing muscle in your chest and we can visibly show you that," says Farahbakhshian.
Pre-orders for Naked start shortly. It will cost around $500 and start shipping at the beginning of next year.
