GREEN BAY, Wis. — As the Green Bay Packers get ready to open their preseason Friday night on the road against the 49ers, a rookie receiver has turned heads at training camp.

It’s just a different rookie receiver than expected.

Coming into camp, it was thought that second round pick Christian Watson would be the rookie receiver getting the positive attention. Watson has been out with a knee injury, so fourth rounder Romeo Doubs from Nevada has been the one getting positive publicity.

Friday night, Doubs will get his first NFL game action.

“I spent all this time preparing,” said the soft-spoken Doubs. “That way, whenever I’m playing a game, there’s no being worried about anything, anxious about anything. I might be a little nervous, but once you get into a rhythm, everything takes care of itself.”

Doubs recently had lunch with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Building a rapport and trust with Rodgers is key.

“I’m just making sure I soak up any little thing that he tells me,” said Doubs. “At year 18, we all know he’s proved his point. To be one of the best quarterbacks to play. So I’m just making sure I take advantage of what he’s telling me.”

“There are a couple of plays that he would love to have back,” said Rodgers, who has also praised Doubs. “I said it’s the best thing that could happen, because I’d rather it happen on a Monday in August than on a game day in September.”

Doubs has been getting plenty of praise in training camp. He shared how he blocks out the hype.

“Just staying in the moment, focusing on what’s next,” said Doubs. “So practice is out of the way and I have meetings. It can be anything. And that’s just a part of who I am, just being able to humble myself and not get so over-hyped and caught up in what anybody else is saying. Because if I can be good, one day, the next I can be bad. So I just make sure to stay in lines within those.”

Doubs calls Friday night a big opportunity that will be fun.
