PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Perfect attendance for the Bills on day one of training camp included Jordan Poyer.

Also present at St. John Fisher was Poyer's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, part of the latest development between the two sides as the All-Pro safety hopes for a new contract.

"I'm letting them handle that side of it,” Poyer said. “Like I said, Drew's here today to talk things out with Brandon. I know they're working things out on both sides. I'm just really excited to be here today with my teammates and see guys again and start this journey and continue to get better each and every day."

"Drew and I have a great relationship as do us and Jordan” general manager Brandon Beane said. “Drew and I have many conversations, this just happened to work out for him to come up here and do this to start camp. We're good. I don't talk about negotiations. You know that. But love Jordan, Drew's great to work with, and that's probably the extent I'd be willing to talk about it."

The two talking points around a new Poyer deal are the money and his age. While the dollar amount will be big, more focus might be on how old he is.

"I'm 31 now,” Poyer said. “I still feel like I can play at a high level for a few years. This is probably one of the strongest offseasons that I've had. Coming into it all I've heard is Jordan's age, this and that. So that continued to motivate me in the offseason. Continued to motivate me to show and that's why I chose to be here because I wanted to come here and show I'm ready to play and I can still play at a high level. I want to continue to be a leader for this team and continue to do what I can to help this team win football games."

The longer this is drawn out, the longer this is a situation that'll continue to hang over Poyer and the Bills. Some may think it would be natural for ill-will to develop over time between the two sides, but Poyer made it clear that he has no trouble separating business and football.

“There is no challenge,” Poyer said. “Football's a game that I love passionately and when I'm out there on the field, nothing else matters and that's just honestly how I feel about it. When I step out there on the field or on the practice field or whether it's training in the offseason, there's really nothing else that matters other than just continuing to get better and continuing to try and be the best that I can be. The best version of myself for my teammates and coaches and in order for us to try and help our team win football games."
