The two Bills rookie wide receivers have made a name for themselves in short order during the early portions of training camp.

What You Need To Know

  • Rookies Gabriel Davis and Isaiah Hodgins making early impression during training camp

  • Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs connecting often Tuesday morning

  • Tyler Bass goes 7/7 on field goal attempts

  • LB Corey Thompson added to injury report

Fourth round pick Gabriel Davis has had some of his best moments with the Bills best covering him, Tre'Davious White. There was a long run after the catch touchdown last Thursday inside Bills Stadium. Then there was his true forte in full force yesterday, a contested catch.

And yes, it is Gabriel, not Gabe because that is what his mother prefers.

Sixth round pick Isaiah Hodgins hasn't been as flashy as Davis, but has stood out with what he can do with his size. At 6'4", Hodgins has shown the great hands that were his reputation throughout the draft process.

Both are shining early in camp against the odds. It was believed rookies would struggle after missing valuable time on the field due to the virtual offseason program.

Instead, players like fellow wide out John Brown have raved about how well Davis and Hodgins have a grasp on the Bills playbook. The rookies credit that to using note cards and studying with each other during the virtual portion of things. And even more so, time spent with Josh Allen and Matt Barkley prior to camp beginning in Orchard Park. Davis and Hodgins along with fellow rookie Zack Moss met Allen and Barkley out in California in mid-May, with the group getting on-field work in for a few days. The group later were joined by most of the other skilled position players on offense a month later around Miami, FL for a few more days of work.

Davis and Hodgins believe that is what has allowed them to play so well to this point of camp.

Here is a real quick look at both tracking deep balls during practice on Tuesday.

While the rookie WRs were the talk after today's practice, Stefon Diggs' was the talk during it. He and Allen continue to build chemistry, with that connection really heating up this morning. Allen targeted and completed four-straight passes to Diggs at one point. Their communication before and after drills and plays has appeared to ramp up as well.

Another note-worthy day in the kicker competition. Tyler Bass rebounding from a tough Sunday by going 5/5 during a kicking portion of practice as well as connecting on two others during the morning. Those attempts were good from distances of 42, 38, 33, 41, 44, 47, and 50 yards. This two days after Bass went 4/6, missing both attempts beyond 50 yards.

Stephen Hauschka did not kick on Tuesday.

Injury notes: LB Corey Thimpson the only new additions, missing practice with knee soreness. WR John Brown received a veteran's rest day. Robert Foster remained in the red, non-contact jersey. Josh Norman (hamstring) and Taiwan Jones (knee) were seen walking around and taking it practice. Patrick DiMarco (neck), Christian Wade (quad), Tommy Sweeney (foot), and Jon Feliciano (chest) all remained out today.
