UB is coming off of a season where they scored over 31 points per game en-route to their first ever bowl win. The 2020 version returns all its skill players, but does have to replace three linemen. That starts with moving right tackle and 2019 team captain Kayode Awosika to the left side where he played in high school, and once again tasking him with protecting his quarterback's blind side.

"Excited about it. Very confident now, as I worked a lot of quarantine on the left side and stuff like that. I am very excited,” said Awosika. “I worked with guys like Taylor Riggins, who stayed here with me throughout quarantine, so we went to the field and did a lot of stuff.”

What You Need To Know

  • Kayode Awosika is switching from right to left tackle

  • He earned the captaincy as a junior

  • Awosika is returning from a left leg injury

Awosika earned All-MAC Second Team last year, but he did miss the final two games with a left leg injury. Missing time drove him to be even more dedicated to his craft this irregular offseason.

"I really dedicated to my nutrition, to my training, to my mobility, to my every sense of my body, because I wanted to make sure I was one hundred and on and progressing further because big year coming. I want to be the best I can for my team and myself," mentioned Awosika.

While he had a "C" on his chest last season there were also three seniors on a line that allowed just eight sacks. With two of them off to the pros, Awosika is now in full command up front, something he doesn't take lightly.

"I've taken it upon myself strongly, honestly last year I did it in the same strongly way. Those guys are great seniors and I was a captain last year and we had a great relationship and we had great leadership on the offensive line and throughout the whole team really is what we emphasis here," added Awosika.

Should the reshuffled line need a game or two to gel their backfield of Jaret Patterson and Kevin Marks, who put up almost 3,000 rushing yards a year ago, should ease any growing pains.

"They see the field differently even when we make an error we are still confident in the fact that they can make a man miss and we scheme off of that. Honestly it is great having two dynamic running backs that if they get the ball they will be successful more often than not for sure," said Awosika.

If the schedule remains as is, the line and all of UB would see where they stand early with a road test at Kansas State set for Saturday, September 5.
