Inspired by the people of Western New York, Kelly Khatib, who first joined the Spectrum News 1 team years ago as an intern, believes the most interesting stories come right from the strength and determination of the people in your neighborhood.

While she admits it’s hard to choose just one, the Buffalo State College grad says her work covering the Buffalo Autism Project is something she holds most dear. She calls interviewing Owner Laura Moeller, who started the foundation to help other moms after her own son was diagnosed, was a moving experience. She adds that she is incredibly proud of the fact that while she has called Western New York home for a decade, people trust her enough to share their stories. “At the end of the day, this is truly the City of Good Neighbors,” she says.

When she isn’t chasing down a story, Khatib, a proud mom, enjoys kayaking at Canalside, reading, swimming, cheering on the Bills and spending time with her cat, Luna, and dog, Liz Lemon. She would also like people to know that Western New York is so much more than just wings and beef on weck.
