LOCKPORT, N.Y. — It's a totally different scene in Lockport on Wednesday as much of the floodwaters that rushed through the area on Tuesday have receded.

Storms brought heavy rain Tuesday evening, causing flooding in many areas of Niagara County.

A surge of water flowed down one Lockport street and down a set of stairs like a waterfall. The incredible video was captured by Twitter user Lake Effect Ice Cream.

Floodwaters remained in other areas of the county.

A portion of Military Road near the intersection of Lockport Road, which is prone to flooding, remained closed on Wednesday morning, as did Garlow Road.

Rain wasn't the only thing that came down in Niagara County on Tuesday. Viewers sent in photos of hail landing in their yards.

Homeowners that spoke to Spectrum News 1 spent much of the day cleaning out wet basements and crawl spaces.

Couches, chairs and holiday decorations were among the items being hauled out to the driveway to dry. Others, meanwhile, were hauling carpets to the curb.

And though the sun was shining, many backyards in Lockport were still flooded and looked more like rivers. Some cars even drove off the road and slid into ditches.

“I knew the ground was probably still saturated from a couple of days ago, so I figured it wouldn’t take long for it to get bad if it was going to get bad, but how bad it got it was mind-boggling,” said Peter Monteferrante, of Lockport.

A state of emergency and a travel ban were put in effect by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. The travel ban has since been lifted, but the sheriff's office says the state of emergency will remain in place as cleanup efforts take place.
