COLLINS, N.Y. — Officials say several officers were injured this month at the Collins Correctional Facility following a series of drug-related incidents and inmates determined by staff to be on drugs.
The first incident happened on September 4 when an officer was head-butted during a frisk after the inmate allegedly admitted he had synthetic marijuana.
Other incidents followed. Spectrum News is told officers were kicked while investigating, attempting to retrieve drugs, or restrain combative inmates.
On one occasion, an inmate was given narcan after vomiting, becoming combative, and then unresponsive. He was taken to a local hospital for observation.
All of the officers injured in these incidents were treated and stayed on duty except for one who went to an outside hospital to be treated for blood exposure.
