The Western New York Land Conservancy is looking to permanently protect more than 700 acres of land in Western New York.

These acres are spread across six different properties between Allegany and Cattaraugus Counties.

Five properties (539 acres) are wetlands and their surrounding forests in the Black Creek watershed in Allegany County. The sixth property (193 acres) is land that is adjacent to the Janet Gallogly Allegany Wildlands in Cattaraugus County.

The goal would be to not only protect, but also connect some of the largest remaining forests in the region.

The Conservancy is already raising money for this project. The final goal totals around $2 million. They have already raised $150,000 toward the Black Creek Protection Projects and have a number of grants pending.

More than $400,000 has already been raised and the Conservancy does have several grants pending.
