Say hello to the Queen — the queen of the show, that is.

It’s the Formula 457 CCS Boat, a sleek and luxurious vessel stealing the spotlight at the "Discover Boating New York Boat Show" at the Javits Center.

What You Need To Know

  • The "Discover Boating New York Boat Show" runs from Jan. 22 to Jan. 26 at the Javits Center

  • There are boats for every budget and lifestyle, ranging from sailboats and PWC to yachts

  • The show dates back to 1905 and is the world’s first and longest-running boat show

At 45 feet, 7 inches long and with a price tag hovering around $2 million, the Formula 457 CCS holds the title of “Queen” at this year’s event.

“Yes, it’s going to be among the most luxurious — if not definitely the most luxurious. Yes, it might be among the most expensive — not definitely the most expensive, but it is the biggest boat, and since 1905, the first boat show, we have named a 'Queen,'” Carrie Waible, spokesperson for the show, said.

The tradition of naming a "Queen" dates back to the inaugural show, held in 1905.

“They used to bring boats on horse-drawn carriages into what is now Madison Square Park, to show off what was then a very new recreation to people that they didn’t understand which of course now has become a New York tradition,” Waible said.

This year’s show caters to a wide range of budgets and lifestyles, offering everything from the Yamaha Jet Blaster Wave Runner, a personal watercraft starting at $8,000, to sailboats, pontoon boats and fishing boats.

Boat shows like this are crucial for the industry, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association, which reports they can generate up to 60% of annual sales. About 85 million Americans go boating each year.

“When you come to the boat show, if you are shopping for a boat, it’s the best place to buy because you can board and compare models side-by-side and take advantage of boat show deals,” Waible said.

Even those who aren’t in the market for a boat are encouraged to stop by.

“If you are not looking to buy a boat and want to just escape this frigid cold, get indoors, do a little summer dreaming, come, you are still welcome to board all the boats and check it out and have fun and get in touch with maybe a part of life you haven’t explored yet,” Waible said.

The "Discover Boating New York Boat Show" runs through Sunday, Jan. 26 at the Javits Center.
