The 2024 NHL Draft is nearly a week away, taking place next Friday and Saturday inside the Sphere in Las Vegas.
There’s a lot of speculation on whether or not the Buffalo Sabres will trade their first-round pick (11th overall) after the team failed to make the playoffs again this past season.
Sabres General Manager Kevyn Adams during a press conference Thursday said moving up, back or out of the first round completely are all options on the table.
He says the goal this offseason is to get the team ready to win now.
"If we end up making pick 11, we'll be excited about it, but it won't be from lack of effort of seeing what else was out there to do," Adams said. "I've told other GMs that this is the first year, in my mind, you're always going to have conversations, you're always going to be looking at different ways to improve your roster, but this year in particular, is the first time I'd say that we're the most comfortable with kind of where we've built our prospect pool that if the right opportunity's there, that we'll be ready to do it."
The Sabres have not qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2011, the longest active playoff drought in the NHL.
