Altemio Sanchez, the man convicted of murdering three women in Western New York, died Friday afternoon, according to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
Dubbed the “Bike Path Killer,” Sanchez was serving 75 years to life when he died at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, according to the DOCCS.
Sanchez in 2007 pleaded guilty to the murder of Linda Yalem, a University at Buffalo sophomore, in 1990; Majane Mazur in 1992; and Joan Diver in 2006.
"I did these crimes, and I should pay for these crimes," he said during his sentencing.
Sanchez, 65, was also suspected of committing dozens of sexual assaults that date back as far as the 1970s, but was not tried because of New York's statute of limitations.
Following Sanchez's arrest, Anthony Capozzi, an innocent man who spent 22 years behind bars for Sanchez's crimes, was released.
The Erie County Medical Examiner's Office will determine Sanchez's cause of death.
