If you got used to skipping the checkout line at Wegmans using it’s SCAN app, you'll have go back to waiting.

The grocery chain is ending the use of that app soon.

Wegmans rolled out SCAN when the pandemic started, designed to make shopping a more socially distant experience.

"Early in the pandemic, we quickly rolled out our SCAN App to provide a contactless in-store shopping option," Wegmans said in a press release. "SCAN users have told us they love the app and the convenience it offers. We love it too and have tried many adjustments to keep it. Unfortunately, the losses we are experiencing from this program prevent us from continuing to make it available in its current state. We've learned a lot and we will continue to introduce new digital solutions to streamline your shopping experience for the future. We're so grateful you used SCAN, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

Customers could scan and bag items as they moved through the store.

But Wegmans says it's seeing too much lost revenue from misuse of the program, so it will be retired on Sunday, Sept. 18.
