BUFFALO, N.Y. — Officials at the Community Health Center of Buffalo presented employees at the Tops on Jefferson Avenue with a special plaque commemorating the bond the two formed following the May 14 mass shooting.

Victim's family members and those who were at Tops when the shooting broke out have been meeting with counselors at the Community Health Center of Buffalo since the tragedy as they learned how to cope with the senseless event that struck the community.

Two Jefferson Avenue Tops employees accepted the plaque on the store's behalf.

"The community really reached out," Curt Baker said. "When we needed them, they ran to us. So this is just a great symbol of 'hey, we're here to help you.' They didn't just say we're here to help you, they actually showed up. So we really appreciate it."

This ceremony comes as the Community Health Center of Buffalo takes part in National Health Center Week celebrations. The theme this year is "The Chemistry of Community."

National Health Center week runs through August 14.
