BUFFALO, N.Y. — There are three new murals depicting the story of the Great Migration of Black Americans from the Southern United States to Buffalo.
The pieces of artwork are on display inside the Westminster Community House.
In the 1890s, immigrants settled in the Buffalo area with the hopes of creating their American dream.
The original settlement house offered various services and training in an effort to stay out of poverty.
"It started out in 1893 with individuals from Europe saying they want a better life for their family," said Chandra Redfern, CEO at Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers. "And you had people at the Westminster Presbyterian Church who said there is a group of people who need help. Let's figure out how to help them and we have continued that legacy up until today. And that is what we do. We work with people to help them realize what their dream is."
The Westminster Community House is in Buffalo's Fruit Belt neighborhood.
