BUFFALO, N.Y. — A travel advisory is in effect in the city of Buffalo on Monday.
City officials provided an update on how they're tackling the storm. Road crews that were originally scheduled to be off for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday have been called in and are working anywhere from 12 to 16 hour shifts.
City of Buffalo Department of Public Work Commissioner Michael Finn says his team will not rest until city streets are cleared.
The DPW says crews began transitioning into the residential areas later Monday morning as snow began to subside, and crews will continue to address side streets Monday evening, in the overnight hours and into Tuesday.
"If it lasts until about 7 o'clock tonight as forecasted, which is what I have seen, it is going to be close to a 24-hour storm," said Finn. "It started around 9-10 o'clock last night, and also the intensity. An inch to 2 per hour consistently with at times 2-3 inches, and even sometimes upwards of 4 is a lot of snow to fall in a short duration of time. Our residents can rest assured that we're just going to keep fighting through and working to clear it as quickly as possible."
The DPW says if your trash didn't get picked up Monday, you are advised to leave it at the curb until a crew comes by to take it.
