BUFFALO, N.Y. — U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh visited Buffalo to talk about the Build Back Better Act and its implications on the area’s workforce.

  • Later in the day, he went to the groundbreaking ceremony for a new NFTA facility that will house electric buses

Walsh, joined by Rep. Brian Higgins, state Sen. Tim Kennedy and local leaders, toured the Northland Workforce Training Center to reference it as an example of how federal funding can boost job skills and opportunities.

“A lot of young people that might be working in a different industry or whatever it might be, they would walk into a place like Northland and all of a sudden the doors open to a whole new career they never imagined so, we need to do more of this,” said Walsh.

Walsh also joined the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority’s groundbreaking for a facility that will house electric buses.

“This investment absolutely will provide more jobs to hardworking people in this region and also in America, all throughout America, as we continue manufacturing and building these buses," said Walsh.

The $8 million upgrade is expected to put 60 electric buses on the streets by summer 2022.
