When many people go to the beauty salon, they just want to sit back and relax, not think about product shortages.

According to Forbes, 2021 has brought about shortages in many areas because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the beauty industry included. Overall inflation has reached levels not seen since 2008. Forbes says that this is caused by “a supply chain” broken by the pandemic.

Though many salons are now struggling to get their hands on all of the products that they need, Buffalo’s Jennifer Julia Salon Owner Jennifer Swift says that she will do whatever it takes because of one main reason.

“What I love about our salon is that we have the best people who come in here,” says Swift.

Around the third week in October, when Swift went to wholesale stores in the Buffalo area to buy hair foils for highlights, she was surprised to find that the owners were limiting purchases to two boxes per person. Normally, she leaves with about 100 at a time.

Swift explains that it’s also been difficult to get all of the hair coloring products that she needs.

“Our color line is made in Germany. Worse comes to worse, let’s hop on a plane, bring an empty piece of luggage, and we’ll fill it up and come home,” explains Swift.

She says that she’s an optimist, but also a planner. She’s hoping for the best, but preparing in case of the worst.
