BUFFALO, N.Y. — Kim Rich Lupkin is one of the volunteers helping to paint Big Big Table, so that the building will look welcoming later this summer when the restaurant is ready to open. Big Big Table will be a pay-as-you-can lunchtime community café, located on 272 Hudson Street in Buffalo.

“Our guests choose the way that they want to participate,” Big Big Table Board President Stephanie Smith said. “Whether you pay $0.20 cents, or $20, for your lunch, you have the same dining experience. There will be other ways for our guests to give back and be a part of Big Big Table.”

What You Need To Know

  • Big Big Table will be a pay-as-you-can lunchtime community café

  • It is located at 272 Hudson Street in Buffalo

  • Residents volunteered to paint it on Sunday

One of the ways guests can give back will be volunteering, with the idea of not only meeting food needs, but bringing the community together.

“We decided that food was something that was so important,” Lupkin said. "Food insecurity is worse now with the pandemic."

Lupkin and her family devoted their Sunday to serving and helping to make Big Big Table a reality. They are part of Rich Products, a long-standing, family-run company, headquartered in Buffalo.

“We weren’t even planning to give the building a face lift,” Smith said. “We were just going to open and improve things as we could. We’re just thrilled that they approached us. They said, ‘We want to come paint.’ And here we are today.”

“We think it’s really good to have everyone realize what help they can give by giving their time and helping those that may not be as fortunate,” Lupkin said.

This sense of coming together is exactly what Big Big Table is all about. Jobs to work at Big Big Table have just been posted. If you’re interested in applying, click here.
