BUFFALO, N.Y. — A South Buffalo bike shop is ready to keep up with the demand it saw last year as folks were looking for a new outdoor hobby.

As the weather gets warmer, Adam Johnson, owner of South Buffalo Wheelhouse, pedals through bicycle maintenance orders.

“More and more bikes coming out of the garages and basement. Very busy, very busy,” he said.

But it’s not just the warm weather bringing business to his bicycle shop. Last year, bikes flew off the racks with the pandemic and Johnson’s wife, Andrea, says it’s similar again this year and business is steady.

“Tripled, tripled again. We thought it was just from last year, but it’s going right back up again,” Andrea said.

This year though, if you’re looking for a bike, they say no need to panic. You’ll be able to get one. They’re working hard to fill orders.

“It’s busy, but it’s nice to see everyone out riding,” Adam said.

Johnson said they are grateful to the community for their support so far. They opened this shop in 2018, and while they are busy, it’s not hard for Johnson to do a job he loves.

“Started riding bikes when I moved back from Atlanta and 2007, just became addicted. I started fixing bikes for everyone. It’s always been a dream of mine to own a business,” Adam added.

If you’re looking into getting a bike this season or just repairing one you already own, you can give them a call at (716) 322-7148.

With another surge in business, South Buffalo Wheelhouse is hiring service technicians. Applicants can call or visit the shop on Seneca Street.
