Many of you at home probably have a New Year’s resolution to eat healthy. While that might seem difficult, it's actually lot easier than you might think.

As it turns out, you can eat bacon. It’s all about moderation of course.

That's the key to losing any extra holiday weight. But first, as Shana Maldonado, the chef over at Built without Guilt explains, you have to remember this first ingredient in this recipe to success.

"You have to give yourself at least three or four weeks to notice a difference," Maldonado said.

Have faith in yourself and the changes you're making, too. Maldonado says a plate should be colorful and divided three ways.

"It should be half veggies, and then a quarter meat and a quarter carb," she explained.

If you're wondering what to sauté veggies in, she suggests trying avocado or coconut oil. Or, if you've made bacon for the dish, you can use the grease. That eliminates any extra calories.

Stray away from using extra virgin olive oil. Maldonado says that should be used for cold food.

"They'll try and heat extra virgin olive oil and they're food will taste bad, and they'll think they're a bad cook," Maldonado said. "But, that's not the case! They're just using the wrong oil."

For busy parents, we didn't forget about you and snacks on the go. Maldonado suggests celery and peanut butter or almond butter. That's a good one for the kids, too. Or, try hummus and red pepper.

"Berries are lower in sugar, which is nice for people who are trying to be conscious about carbs," Maldonado said.

It's suggested you have a cup and a half of fruit a day. Or, if you'd rather have someone else do the cooking, Maldonado does meal prep. Not only will your kitchen stay clean, but you'll get a good idea of how change your diet.

Bon appetite, Buffalo!
