BUFFALO, N.Y. — Back in 1976, John Walker, Jr., Darryl Boyd, Floyd Martin, Darren Gibson, and Tyrone Woodruff (16 years old at time) were arrested for the murder of William Crawford, who was killed in a yard on Fillmore Avenue across the street from the Golden Nugget.

They all served prison time and were released on parole in their 30s — but they've always maintained their innocence.

Now, more than 40 years later, two of the three living members of "The Buffalo 5" returned to court to challenge their convictions.

Attorney Paul Cambria represents the men and says they are looking for initial photographs from the scene.

The photos were used in the trial and acquittal of Floyd Martin, and according to Cambria, show one set of footprints — meaning only one person could have been involved in the murder.

"The photographs that we have been given appear to be ones that were taken after people had been on scene and changed the scene," said Cambria. "We're looking for photographs on the scene before anybody walked on it."

"Those pictures will eliminate the prosecution's theory," said Boyd.

Wednesday's hearing was adjourned after the Erie County district attorney filed an opposing affidavit. The DA's office claims "there is no merit to the claims the DA's office withheld evidence that could have cleared the ‘Buffalo 5’ of any wrongdoing.”

"I feel confident in what we're doing and it won't be long until we're exonerated," said Walker, Jr. "That would be the best days of our lives to be exonerated."

Walker, Jr. and Boyd say they'd like to live to see the names of "The Buffalo 5" cleared for themselves and their children.

They are set to return to court in January.
