AMHERST, N.Y. — We had Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and now today we have Cyber Monday.

Today, like the other days, the Amherst Chamber of Commerce says it’s especially important for you to remember to shop local.

The chamber works with thousands of businesses across Erie County, so they aren’t focused just on shops in Amherst.

The chamber teamed up with the county to roll out the Shop 716 eGift card.

You can buy the gift card online and someone can spend it at one of the 400 local stores participating in this program.

A.J. Baynes, president and CEO of the chamber, urges people to shop local.

“And I think with Cyber Monday, look at your retailers, your small shops you like to go to, the places you like to get those small gifts for people,” said Baynes. “Look at who's possibly putting something together online for that and engage with those small retailers. These next five weeks or so are so important, and could be the difference between a shop staying open or a shop closing permanently."

He says they’ve already issued more than 10,000 gift cards. They hope to issue well over $1 million worth of eGift cards.

The Shop 716 gift card does not expire.
