"I just want you to know who I am" is no longer just a well-known Goo Goo Dolls lyric; it's now a powerful message that is being promoted on Buffalo’s East Side.

What You Need To Know

  • The new mural contains the recognizable Goo Goo Dolls lyric, 'I just want you to know who I am'

  • A new mural is at 982 Broadway

  • The mural promotes inclusion

"With the number of immigrants that are moving to the neighborhood, we just felt that concept, 'I just want you to know who I am,' and even young kids of color in the African American community who really want to know that they’re seen, that they’re heard, that they have a voice. It just seemed like this is a perfect mural at the perfect location," says Stephen Karnath, Broadway-Fillmore NHS executive director.

Karnath says that they played an integral part in making the mural happen from identifying the building to reaching out to muralist Casey Milbrand.

"He suggested the idea of 'I Just Want You to Know Who I Am.' He was at the 2004 concept at City Hall where it poured rain and 60,000 people all sang along. Johnny Rzeznik, lead singer for the Goo Goo Dolls, grew up three blocks from the mural, so he greenlighted the mural. He loved the idea," adds Karnath.

If you would like to see the mural, just head over to 982 Broadway.
