It’s been nearly 19 years since the September 11, 2001, terror attacks, and like it does every year, the American Red Cross of Western New York is honoring those lives lost.

It set up nearly 3,000 flags in front of its headquarters on Delaware Avenue, each of which represents a victim of the attacks.

"Over 20 families with Western New York ties that were affected by it, that tragedy on September 11, and so it's really our honor to continue to support the families. This is the main way we do it, but we're still here providing that emotional support in that support group whenever necessary as well," said Jay Bonafede, an American Red Cross regional communications officer.

The Western New York Families of September 11 is a local group that is working on this tribute with the Red Cross. The organization provides support to families who were affected by the tragedy.
