The Western New York region is abuzz over entering the second phase of the state's "unpause" order.
What You Need To Know
- WNY entered Phase 2 Tuesday
- Hair salons and barbershops open
- Facials, waxing and nail services not offered at this time
The order includes the reopening of hair salons and barbershops, like JB Barber and Stylist in Jamestown.
"It feels wonderful. It feels really great," said Mike Mistretta, of Jamestown.
Mistretta normally gets his hair cut about once a month.
"And when you go over three months without a haircut it's certainly noticeable. I'm a lot more human after the haircut; I haven't had my hair this long since my college days. So it's been a while since my hair’s grown out this long," said Mistretta.
JB is one of many local shops and salons now open for business in the city and across the region, offering limited services but following safety guidelines.
Local barbers and stylists are equipped with more than just a comb and a pair of scissors.
Robert Erickson helped his father-in-law, longtime barber John Bellavia, reopen the shop Tuesday.
Bellavia, who is completely deaf, has been cutting hair for more than 50 years and spent Monday combing through the guidelines; cleaning, sanitizing and setting up chairs for social distancing.
"It's going to be great for him. We got everything all situated. Just so many regulations, that it's very hard. It's hard for him but I'm sure he's going to manage. Already he's been busy," said Erickson.
Busy with those like Mistretta, who was one of the first in the chair.
"Feel 100 percent better. The little things that you can't do, you certainly miss a lot more when you can't do them," said Mistretta.
Services not offered at this time include waxing, facials and nails.
