A huge community concern — that’s what Niagara County District Attorney Caroline Wojtaszek said about 3-year-old Christopher Pizarro’s death.
The little boy was seemingly healthy.
According to the DA, around 2:30 p.m. on February 15, a 911 call came in for an unresponsive child on 17th Street in Niagara Falls.
When emergency personnel arrived, the boy had a faint pulse. He was taken to a hospital but did not survive.
The DA would not comment on what exactly “unresponsive” meant.
Niagara Falls Police say the medical examiner ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head, but they’re still determining the specifics of how the injury occurred. More tests are still underway, and the results could take months.
The DA says final autopsy results will be kept close to the investigation until the police and DA know who did this.
"I, like anyone in the community, need to get to the bottom of this. We need to know who is responsible for committing such a heinous crime and we need to bring that person to justice," said Wojtaszek.
Police and the DA are both involved because the incident involves a child.
Any case with the death of a child is always investigated as a homicide, until ruled otherwise.
The DA wouldn’t confirm if the boy's parents were home at the time. However, she told Spectrum News everyone who had access to the child is a person of interest.
Police tell Spectrum News that Christopher was laid to rest Thursday.
