Veterans Day ceremonies were held throughout Western New York to honor the brave men and women who served our country.

The Buffalo Naval Park on Monday hosted a wreath laying ceremony.

For this year's celebrations, the Naval Park enlisted the help of its new neighbors at the Explore & More Children's Museum.

Five wreaths were laid to honor the Armed Forces.

The wreaths are made with handprints from children who visited the museum's art studio and have personal messages of gratitude to veterans.

Several state and local leaders attended the ceremony including Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, who talked about a new project in the works to honor our veterans.

"We have announced today that there will be a New York state Military Veterans Cemetery," said Hochul. "It's the first time in our history because we're not waiting any longer for the federal government to do their job. New York state has stepped up."

This could be the last veterans celebration at the current space for the Buffalo Naval Park.

The Naval Park is in the middle of expanding its facility to provide more programming and education on veterans.

The Naval Park also offered free admission to all veterans and their families.
