While Western New Yorkers recover from storm damage, Sen. Chuck Schumer is reminding leaders that record lakeshore flooding levels can't keep happening.

He says the International Joint Commission needs to do a better job.

"We are getting army corps studies and money from the federal government to make sure we protect the lakeside,” he said. “Anything the state can do is welcome as well. And so it's a good thing because people have lived for years along lake side and in the last few years there has been tremendous flooding. The IJC, the International Joint Commission has to do a better job at preventing that flooding from occurring."

This year Lake Ontario hit an all-time high, breaking the record set in 2017.
