For the brave people walking through the doors of Niagara Nightmares at 870 Lee Avenue in North Tonawanda, they enter one eerie scene after another, with suspense following close by around every corner.

Kyle and Alisha King, owners of Western New York Property Kings, started the walk-through haunted house in their yard last year, with around 1,000 people mustering the courage to get scared out of their wits.

"It gets bigger and bigger every year," Alisha King said.

This year, the work started in August to make sure no matter where there are screams around every corner.

But there’s comfort at the end of the scary walk: The proceeds from the haunted house benefit the non- ‘fraidy cats and dogs at the Niagara SPCA.

"Last year we donated canned goods to the North Tonawanda food pantry,” Kyle King said. “This year we decided to go the SPCA route because of our love for animals and because we saw a post where they wanted to do a haunted house at the actual SPCA but they just wanted to do a one day event and I just didn't think it was possible to set something like this up for just one day so I reached out to Kim and me and her kind of got together and we decided to do it here for the SPCA.”

Kimberly LaRussa, the event coordinator for the Niagara SPCA, said money raised like this is crucial for the shelter to keep up.

"It will help us tremendously,” LaRussa said. “We are a no-kill shelter so all the funding we get really helps our mission so it will help feed our animals, give them medical care, anything they need, so it helps all our animals stay for as long as they need to.”

Rather than admission, adults can get in for the suggested donation of $5 and kids are free.

There will also be pizza and drinks being sold, with the proceeds also going to the Niagara SPCA.

Ready to get scared? The haunted house creaks open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. October 18 through 20 and then October 25 through Halloween.
