Hundreds broke bread Saturday night as part of a major fundraiser for a Buffalo hospitality house.

Kevin Guest House held its “Supper in the Street” fundraiser, a family-style dinner held right outside on Ellicott Street. Nearly 400 guests enjoyed dinner on what’s being dubbed the "longest dinner table in the city of Buffalo."

“People in Buffalo don’t know the gem they have here,” said Darlene Spychala, a former board member for the Kevin Guest House.

The organization provides a home away from home for patients and their families traveling to Buffalo for medical care.

“We provide shelter, dignity, food, companionship for those that are desperately in need of support and far away from home,” said Thomas Garvey, one of the founding members for the organization.

Every night, volunteers take the time to have dinner with the guests at the house. The organization’s board decided to take that concept a step further and organize this special fundraiser.

“Fundamentally, Kevin Guest House keeps families together during times of trouble, a family member is ill, and so what better way to celebrate keeping families together than bringing together western New York to have dinner together,” said Marc Martis, a board member.

The fundraiser is part of the organization’s capital campaign to raise $3.5 million to expand their campus.

“We’ve been around for almost 50 years, the goal is to be here for another 100 years or more,” said Lynsey Weaver, the organization’s executive director.

Since its founding in the 1970s, Kevin Guest House has served more than 56,000 people. The board hopes to bring people together through their mission of helping others.

“It’s important not just for people at Kevin Guest House which is divided in many ways that people unify around the common them and that is give of your time give of your energy give your financial you’re your treasure to help other people in need and that’s what this house is all about,” Garvey said.
