The school year is winding down but tensions are heating up on the Buffalo Board of Education.

The board president wants Common Council Member Ulysses Wingo to be kicked off the council's education committee.

She plans to introduce a resolution about it at Wednesday’s board meeting.

Dr. Barbara Seals Nevergold said she has enough support for the resolution to pass.

She wants Wingo removed because he brought a loaded gun to a school without getting proper permission.

Wingo said he brought the gun to an after-school event and told the principal as soon as realized his mistake.

The gun was then locked in the school's safe.

Wingo was never charged with a crime but Seals Nevergold said Wingo admits to breaking the law and he shouldn't be responsible for decisions about education.

Meanwhile, a gun-rights group plans to protest at City Hall this afternoon in support of Wingo.

That protest is planned for 4:30 p.m., an hour before the board meeting begins.
