Breaking the boundaries and bridging nations, all in the name of the Special Olympics.

Tuesday was the fifth annual Badges at the Border international law enforcement torch run.

Law enforcement agencies from both the United States and Canada, along with Special Olympic athletes, came together at the international line to light the Special Olympics flame of hope cauldron, showing that Special Olympics has no borders.

"This event, although it's media worthy, it typifies what we do every day with our partners in Canada because unlike a lot of parts in this country, here in Western New York and Southern Ontario, we truly are neighbors, partners and friends,” said Steven Nigrelli of the New York State Police.

The torch run was the final leg in New York State. The Flame of Hope was handed over to Canada as they carry it throughout Ontario into their State Games.
