The FBI is now offering up to $25,000 as a reward for information that leads to an arrest in the shooting death of a 12-year-old Buffalo boy.

Badraldeen Elwaseem, 12, was struck by a stray bullet in his home on William Street on April 6. At the time, police said shots were being fired at a car from the Town Gardens apartments area.

Another person, a 22-year-old man, was also hit by a stray bullet.

Badraldeen was a student at International School #45 in Buffalo.

The original reward offered by the FBI and Crimestoppers was $12,500; the total reward now being offered is up to $32,500, an increase one detective said comes from a position of strength, not one of a faltering investigation. That amount includes a $7,500 contribution from Crimestoppers for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.

“The shooting of a child, the killing of a child, is a horrible crime,” said Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown Monday morning. “Many in the community have called to express their shock and grief about this incident. The family has been praying for a breakthrough. We want to thank the members of the public who have provided information. The community is collectively outraged by this incident.”

“This is a very loved and very missed little boy,” said FBI Buffalo Special Agent in Charge Gary Loeffert. “We cannot let crimes like this one fade away or simply become history. We cannot grieve, memorialize Badraldeen and move on, only to become incensed when the next crime occurs.”
