Next time you get takeout, it may not come in a plastic foam container.

Buffalo Common Council members are considering a ban on the material.

"I didn't want to simply write a law without hearing from people on how it would impact businesses and our environment," said Council President Darius Pridgen.

They say plastic foam is not biodegradable and it’s ending up in area waterways.

John Szalasny of Sierra Club Niagara Group is leading the push for the ban in the community, and says indirectly we're ending up eating the material, which is a hazard to our health.

"Once it's in the food stream, once your animals have eaten it, they get eaten by other animals all the way up the chain to us," said Szalasny.

A public hearing on the issue is schedule for next Tuesday.
