Thor Borresen is an avid skier, often ready and waiting when the first chair lift starts operating at 9 a.m.

He and others were ready to hit the freshly groomed slopes and fresh powder Tuesday.

"Aside from skydiving, I don't know of anything else that has that acceleration when you're on your two feet and you're just going. It's neat,” he said.

Sharing that love of adrenaline and movement is a top priority for Kissing Bridge this month as well.

Andy Minier, the race director at KB, said it’s a chance to take in what the region has to offer and stretch your legs.

"It's going to snow in New York, it's going to be cold, why stay in and hibernate,” he asked. “Get outside and love it."

Thursday marks Discover New York Ski Day, an opportunity for anyone to strap on some boots, grab some poles and hop on a board or skies.

"It's a $25 learn to ski. It's the beginner hill, it's your lessons and rentals,” Minier said. “On the 28th we are actually offering a free learn to ski day."

There's also an improvement program, for $30, which includes rentals, the lift ticket, and a little encouragement from professionals.

"It's a lifetime sport, you can do it when you're an old man, you can do it when you're little and then in between,” Minier said. “You can ski with your kids, it engages families.

Kissing Bridge isn’t the only resort in the area participating in Discover NY Ski Day; a full list is available here.
