Buffalo firefighters were called to a fire on Bryson Street in the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

The fire started on the first floor of the house and moved upward. The house is considered a total loss, Buffalo fire officials said.

No one was in the house at the time of the fire. The Red Cross is assisting four adults and eight children.

Firefighters were inside the neighboring home but it was not immediately clear whether anyone was in that house or if that house had also caught fire.

One person was on the first floor of that second home at the time but was able to escape. Two dogs also left safely.

The neighboring home suffered some damage but will be habitable. The primary house that caught fire will need to be demolished, officials said.
