Leaders in Niagara County are moving forward with a lawsuit against the nation's leading drug makers.

It's part of a multi-county litigation blaming manufacturers for their role in the nationwide opioid crisis.

There's also a new local law on the books declaring opioids a public nuisance. That's part of the legislatures attempt to recoup some of the local costs from big pharmacy associated with treatment and education.

"Now we have a society that is dealing with an addiction crisis to this problem and where are they in paying for the solutions to this problem," said Caroline Wojtaszek, (D) Niagara County District Attorney.

Erie and Chautauqua Counties are also part of the suit.
