The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is adding a new deputy, but this one would need a special uniform if he wore pants.

Meet Clipper, a black Lab trained to sniff out accelerants used to start fires.

The year-and-a-half-old pup and his handler graduated from the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Canine Training Center in Front Royal, Virginia, earlier this month.

Clipper will help local fire departments with investigations and will also be part of the ATF’s National Response Team.

But as one officer joins the force, another is retiring.

Axe, a dog rescued near Albany last year, is hanging up his badge.

The office says after another dog attacked Axe, he slowly became timid and stopped responding to training.
