Former Bills player Thurman Thomas is now advocating for cashless bail for non-violent offenders.

The running back spoke during a public safety committee meeting Thursday, saying middle-class citizens can afford to pay the 10 percent fee charged by bail bond companies, while the poor are just out of luck.

"This is something I feel strongly, that a lot of the players are doing around the National Football League in the cities that they play or the cities that they retire. With just doing my homework and a bit of research, I wanted to come down here because I have seen families destroyed so I want to be a part of it,” said Thomas.

The support of Thomas is expected to move the Erie County Legislature for a vote.
