Dozens of catholic charities employees want Bishop Richard Malone to reconsider phasing out foster care and adoption services.

Last week, Catholic Charities, which is sponsored by the Diocese of Buffalo, announced it will stop providing the services because the state requires that same sex couples be allowed to adopt and foster children.

That requirement violates Catholic teachings, which say that marriage is only between a man and a woman.

A letter, sent to Bishop Malone, was e-mailed to Spectrum News by an employee.

"We understand that while the church teaches that the best family structure for children is to have a married mother and father, that the church should also agree that alternative family structures are infinitely better than no family structure at all,” the note stated.

More than 90 workers have signed the letter.

Spectrum News reached out to the diocese but have not heard back.
