NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — The potholes on Ridge Road were around so long they were being named. But on Tuesday, the 'craters' were becoming a thing of the past.

So long, Gorge. Bye bye, Grand Canyon. Good riddance.

At the end of May, a deal was made by the City of North Tonawanda, the school district, Sportsplex Inc. and Twin Cities Community Outreach. Maintenance and repaving work is being done by the city. Sportsplex and Twin Cities are paying about $11,000 for the materials. The district is giving the city a bus to cover the cost of labor.

But the months of negotiations created nearly undrivable conditions. Things got so bad, a number of Meals on Wheels volunteers called it quits. The hope is that now the road is fixed, they'll come back.
