Some local activists are joining a national movement to condemn the recent U.S. military action in Syria.

The Buffalo Anti-War Group held a rally in Niagara Square Sunday.

Organizers are calling on the government to stop invading foreign countries including Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria.

The group hopes to get enough protesters that the government feels forced to focus on issues at home.

"It's just so important because people are dying out there,” said Thomas Answeeney, one of the protesters. “Innocent civilians, all so big American firms can get rich. You just look at the stock market, oil's soaring, weapons, ammunition are soaring. That's what drives war."

The U.S., the UK and France launched missiles on Syria late Friday.

The goal was to stop the Middle Eastern country from using chemical weapons in the future.

The Syrian government is suspected of launching a chemical attack last week that left 40 people dead.
