BUFFALO, N.Y. —  A three-year-old child remains at Women & Children’s Hospital Monday morning after being struck by a car.

“There was a loud crash and then I heard people screaming,” said Shane Smith,  a neighbor on Babcock Street who called police after the crash Sunday afternoon. “There was a family of people right in front of my car…and there was a lot of screaming going on and I called 911 right away.”

Babcock Street residents say the crash is indicative of a bigger problem in their community.

“They really need a speed bump in this area because cars may go through here maybe 40, 50 miles an hour. There’s kids in this neighborhood and you don’t hear them slowing down at any time,” said neighbor Yesenia Torres.

Police say the driver of the vehicle that hit the child is cooperating in the investigation.
